On 1st February, ‘Nuclear Week’ came to a close. I marked the week by attending a series of events with other politicians and key stakeholders, including from the wider nuclear supply chain.
I have been unequivocally clear that the nuclear industry offers Suffolk and Britain huge opportunities for our local and national economy and for our energy security.
Last Autumn, I signed a groundbreaking deal with Sizewell C that, as well as guaranteeing at least 500 jobs for Ipswich residents, supports our colleges and university, and enhances investment into our local supply chain.
The agreement is good for jobs, skills and businesses, and it is good for the people of Ipswich.
Furthermore, last month, I organised a letter signed by 50 parliamentarians, calling on the Government to use the upcoming Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR) to announce a Final Investment Decision for Sizewell C. Giving the final seal of approval to this project would kickstart the creation of thousands of jobs and generate billions of pounds for our economy, and could really be a flagship of the Government’s bid to turbocharge economic growth.
